THE TRADITION: PINOCHLE
No, I don't play pinochle; I'm from Indiana, remember? We all play Euchre, well, we did before everyone started moving around so much. I think one of the first things we did at IU was to play some games in the gathering room - everyone knew how to play. But back to Pinochle: my husband's family plays and today my husband, his dad and two or three of his brothers are meeting at one brother's home in Iowa City to battle it out. Now, I think they have sort of evolved this family game tradition which goes back as least as far as my husband's grandfather into a game of unique rules. As my husband tells me, the last time they played his brother and father had to leave the room to discuss what combinations of cards signified.
I have some pictures from that last time and I'm going to try and find them.
