    SECOND KENDALLVILLE CROSSING GUARD HIT

Yes, twice in a relatively short span of time, two crossing guards at the Riley St. position have been hit by cars. There doesn't seem to be anything about it in the Fort Wayne paper, although Channel 21 was up here at 3 pm yesterday talking to police at the scene.

I live on Riley Street and currently have three children attending North Side Elementary. Will it take a Police Officer getting struck by a vehicle before the City of Kendallville wakes up and relizes that there is a serious problem that needs to be immediately dealt with before it is literally to late???
Someone is going to lose a child because people are in such a hurry to get wherever they are going and are in no way concerned with the safety of other people.

Currently the posted speed is 30 miles per hour just before the intersection in question which translates to 50 miles per hour with your typical driver. There are no lights flashing that a school zone is ahead.

I appreciate your comments; I saw the accident after the fact and didn't get any information until later the next day. In this case, I think the driver had stopped on Harding Street and then turned south on Riley St. Do you know how far the guard was in the street when she was hit?

Apparently, the car's windows had a lot of snow on them; that is never a good thing.

I agree the crossing needs to be better marked, with signs alerting drivers before they reach the intersection.
