    COLTS DID WELL TODAY. YES!!!!!!

I enjoyed watching the game today, not having to think "oh, please, oh please, oh, please" or scream, "Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!" Talented people doing things well are a pleasure to watch.

    BEARS BEARS BEARS

Oh, Chi Bears, you are leading, but by only seven to three. Griese tried to throw a touchdown pass and two guys grabbed it and the Detroit Lions came up with it. Is there not a rule about being in control of the ball when you go down? I guess they would actually call it an air fumble and recovery. Whatever. Go Bears. Go and Go and Go.

    THE GREAT RAID

Now, I am watching The Great on AMC about the rescue of prisons from the Japanese prison camp in the Phillippines. Don't you think it's time we got ourselves in gear to make products as well as the Japanese do? I mean, at least we should do it to validate those whose lives were nipped short in the attempt to defend this country.

    AMERICAN MADE AUTOMOBILES

Hey, guess what? The UAW is doing the strike thing again, and apparently, a tentative contract has been reached with GM. They are moving on to Ford and Crysler. Well, isn't that special? Do you have any idea how many American-made cars are on Consumer Reports' best used car value list? Out of approximately 60 vehicles, three are from the US: Buick Regal, Pontiac Vibe and Chevrolet Prizm. As for most of the others, can you say Japan. Yes, the fellows who we are watching on Ken Burns' "The War" series in the role of enemy and Bataan Death March organizers make better cars. This is embarrassing.

    ROTTEN APPLE?

Hey, if a 59 year old lady in the Midwest is citing articles about problems with Apple, that should tell you something. Look here.

    NOT LAST TUESDAY

You know what I like about this particular Tuesday? Well, I am not going to get up tomorrow extremely early in the morning to leave a super nifty oceanside motel in Pacific Beach, California. Of course, last week I was lying on the beach at this time, looking forward to some fish tacos at Rubio's. Today, I had a baked potato and am lying on the sofa in the sitting room.

Oh, PB, leaving you was so sad - although I do have some of your sand in my suitcase.

    Gnome at Pacific Beach hotel

    OH NO

Checking the brochure for the Apple Festival, it looks as if the Wellspring Fiddlers will not be performing this year. This is a terrible development.

    INTO FALL

I am not so certain I am ready to start autumn, but since summer days ran together, I suppose fall will do the same and it won't be long until I am looking at the first of winter. My mother says the rule on Indian Summer is that it comes after the first snowfall; we will see. Halloween things are in the stores - perhaps I will buy a three-foot skeleton from the The Dollar Tree.

The sun is moving to the south now and in the late morning the upstairs sitting room with windows to the south and west is filled with sunshine, coming in at a cheerful angle. Ah, so much for the H&G report . . .

I am still very bummed about the Crocodile Hunter. He was so full of life and, then, like a light switch, it was gone. I liked him a lot more than I realized. Damn, I don't want to accept that he was killed.
